Fengshui

Does fengshui exist? Or Vaastu Sastra (Indian version of fengshui)?

Some people (esp. Chinese) believe in it. Some people don't and dismiss it as superstition. Most younger generations do not know to believe or not but they probably think there is something there but don't know what but choose to ignore it.

I'm sure many Indians (esp. Older generation) also believe in Vaastu in similar manner.

Well... I believe in fengshui (and vaastu) but not all that is said about it.

Almost a decade ago, someone simplified fengshui and brought it to the masses. I'm sure she is quite good at fengshui but she is also a very smart business woman hence many stores were launched and the masses became aware of this once obscure "art/science".

But I must say that while I'm just a layman, I don't quite agree with that "brand" of fengshui that was popularized i.e. place this thing here and voila things change. No. I believe there is more to it than that. I certainly don't believe buying those cute little toys or figurines will solve our problems. That's more like superstition to me.

Fengshui is an applied science based on knowledge of chi and the environment that we live in. This knowledge can be used to our advantage. But buying figurines... well... with all due respect, I don't see how the energy is changed other than the vendor's energy being increased and yours reduced (read as bank account :p ). Btw, some fengshui stores selling figurines closed shop and it makes one wonder here you are selling so called "fengshui" items as remedies for the masses but you can't look into your own store's fengshui? Duh....hello...

But in terms of environology and the flow of chi...yes... I believe there is something to it. The articles written in The Star newspaper on fridays by MINGs founder David Koh are good articles to read to at least make us aware of this science.

We can also see the application of fengshui in China and HK. In fact, in HK, the celebrities have their names and looks changed in accordance to their personal "fengshui". E.g. It was said that Louis Koo was told by a fengshui master that he needs to change his complexion in order to be successful in showbiz. I'm sure some of us remember that he used to be very fair and later became very tan.

The founder of Genting Highlands, Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong was supposedly told by a famous fengshui master that the hill that was to be known as Genting Highlands was very special and that whatever LGT decides to do there, be it forest reserve, retreat, casino etc, would be successful. And so he chose to open a casino. :D

One Insurance company's building in HK, has windows shaped like coffins. Again, that was a fengshui master's recommendation.

We see some Chinese do massive expensive renovations to their homes before CNY to usher in the new year.

At one point of time within the last decade, we have people buying figurines etc before CNY as remedies etc.

All in the name of fengshui.

Well, while I believe in fengshui as it is just a science of the environment and the resultant flow of energy, I also believe that we should not let fengshui rule us. Knowledge of fengshui is exactly that...knowledge. It is a tool for you to use to your advantage (not to harm others of course). It's not meant to rule your life.

Who is the divine being? You or fengshui? You of course. You are created in HIS likeness, so don't you think personal power lies with you?

By all means use fengshui or Vaastu to your advantage but know that you are the master of your own destiny. :-)

Of course, this is just my opinion...
