The eastern believe in reincarnation says that we will reincarnate maybe even as animals etc depending on our karma. And that we have no control over it unless you are a highly developed spiritual person like a Rimpoche.
I'm not so sure about that. While some of it may be true, I also tend not to accept wholly what was said. My understanding of our soul's journey or journey of a group of souls is that a group of souls maybe together in one or more incarnations for possibly the following reasons:-
1. They have certain patterns in them that draw them together. Whether it is karmic seeds or roles they may play.
2. They have unfinished work/business that they are supposed to complete.
3. One or more of them made a vow that vibrates through their whole being that they will be together for all eternity or until something happens.
4. We choose the life we want to live before reincarnating. We have played out the life in its entirety and idealness before we take physical incarnation to experience it for soul enrichment.
There maybe more reasons for us to be born within a group but the above would suffice for now. The 4 possibilities I mentioned above could take many combinations in my humble opinion.
I'll give some examples:-
I know of a friend (whom has since departed very suddenly few years ago) whom wants to have a relationship but somehow he could never seem to be able to start one. I heard that girls get uncomfortable when they are around him for too long. Some of our other friends who have the ability to see the unseen could see that there was always 2 spirits following him everywhere he goes. 1 is a woman, the other is a child. The hypothesis is that the 3 of them could be a family in the past but something happened and one or all 3 of them made a vow that they will be together come what may. Vows are powerful if spoken with full conviction. His sudden departure was also mysterious. He basically dropped dead suddenly. As far as I know, until now, the doctors never found out what happened. Of course, his sudden departure could be a coincidence but the presence of the 2 spirits beside him certainly explains why he just could never start a relationship.
With regards to groups of souls reincarnating together, I believe they will keep reincarnating together until:-
1. If a soul learns the lesson that the soul said it wanted to learn before reincarnating in that group, that soul moves on to other lessons that it wants to learn as it experience it creation. The group of soul that hasn't learnt yet still stays together until they complete their lessons. In the context of a couple in a karmic marriage, in my opinion, if say, the wife completes her "lessons" whereas the husband doesn't, she moves on but the husband would go through another lifetime with another soul that has the same lesson to learn.
2. A group of souls may have decided before reincarnation that they will do something together. Each soul will bring into that group a unique skill. Say when the time comes for them to do what they were supposed to do and one of them chickens out, the whole group fails. In a scenario like this, the group would return in another lifetime to complete the "mission". It's possible that the group of souls live very different lives and are with different groups of souls but when certain time comes, they will meet and the opportunity to complete their "mission" before returning to normal life with their respective group of souls. This is probably why sometimes some of us may feel a strong sense of deja-vu when we meet someone for the first time (not always true).And where we have already decided how or what kind of life we want before coming down here, if we ended up not creating it the way we originally intended it, we have when we pass on, the opportunity to relive it again or move to another. Chances we will choose to go through it again as the soul seeks knowledge and experience and if it has not yet achieved its mission, it would continue on its mission of "enrichment". This could explain what karma really is at a higher level (but I could be way off here).
There is also a weird phenomenon that I would like to mention. I know of a family that is so integrated one wonders what is their past life connection. And I don't just mean good family relationships. I mean deeper than that. A few of the siblings can dream of their departed mother coming to give advice on certain things that they are pondering on. Now... For people in spiritual paths, we can get messages in our dreams and from people whom we knew. The image of someone we know could actually be our guardian angel, or higher soul but in the guise of someone we knew and have respect for and are comfortable with. I say guise because we see what we are comfortable with. But for a group to get the same person in the dreams is something else. Now back to the example, the advices from the departed mother can be so vivid to the extend that if she says that any one of them should visit a place that none of them have been to, upon investigation, that place turns out to actually exists! The direction to it was given so accurately it baffles the mind. One cannot but wonder what is the link between all of them. It certainly is the extraordinary rather than the norm.
Also, sometimes, if we have been to genuine channelers etc and our past life is revealed, it's amazing to note that the people we are with could have been with us for ages i.e. many lifetimes. The roles may change e.g. Your wife in the present life could have been your brother in one previous life. Your sister-in-law in the present could have been an employee or assistant to you in a previous life. So it begs the question, well if we are supposed to learn something, shouldn't the role remain the same? Yes and no. Every event can have multiple transformations and this presents many opportunities to learn a similar lesson. Even after completing the lesson, there can still be other lessons that can be learnt within the same group. Get it? So it's not surprising that the same group of souls keep returning into physical incarnation but in differing roles and differing timelines coz the possibilities of learning and enriching the soul's experience/knowledge is unlimited.
The above are possibilities and are just my opinion. They may not be accurate.
